DMBA began in 1970 when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with other companies owned and operated by the Church, established a third-party administrator (TPA) to manage employee benefits. That TPA is known today as Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators, or DMBA for short. DMBA is a private, nonprofit trust and does not manage benefits for other businesses.
Like other TPAs, DMBA is not an insurance company. Rather, it’s an administrative organization that partners with sponsoring employers to help employees elect and meet their personal financial and health-related goals through pension plans, 401(k) plans, and life, medical, and dental benefits. And after nearly 50 years in the business, DMBA is really good at what it does. Known as the “crown jewel” of all benefits administrators, DMBA’s customer service rankings by independent evaluators place it more than 14 percentage points ahead of its nearest competitor. Indeed, DMBA has been the premier TPA for more than seven years.
